A controversy filled fixture!
Real Madrid-Champs traveled to Bad
Boys yesterday, and the opening minutes saw UTTER CONTROVERSY, as
in-form Ruud van Nistelrooy scored a CLEAR goal in the 2nd minute which
was disallowed due to a non-existent offside! Admittedly, the remainder
of the match was dominated by the home side without any resulting goal
for them, EVEN though first choice goalkeeper Stanley Moore was injured
in the 32nd minute and had to be substituted. Moore will miss the cup
match against Stallionz as well as the trip to Leeds United...
But the disallowed goal proved to be the difference between a point away instead of what SHOULD have been all 3! It will prove to be crucial, because a win would have meant RMC would go 3rd ahead of Bad Boys and 2 behind leaders Gunners!!!
The previous fixture this season had also seen Roy Keane getting away with a headbutt to the nose of Raúl. But this game-changing ruling was surely more controversial and decisive than that. Referee Tony Nolan refused to comment after seeing the replay, but refusing to defend his decision does not give the RMC fans anything to cheer about.
Manager Sujith Krishnan had this to say after the match- "It was an OUTRAGEOUS decision! Nolan was, I thought until today, a good referee- one of the best around! But he CLEARLY got that wrong! I think the system need to revise itself and keep linesmen to help referees, because it cost us the win and could VERY WELL have cost us the match!"
A point away at ad Boys, is still, a good result at the end of the day and RMC will just have to make peace with that. But what effect it will have on the 2 time champs' Championship hopes for the season remains to be seen...
