Experimentation backfires on RMC
Real Madrid-Champs faced Red Devils
11 at the Säntiago Bernebéu yesterday and manager Sujith Krishnan opted
for very mysterious tactics by playing 5-4-1 with young 4th choice
striker Gonzäló Higuaín the loan man upfront with other reserves like
Ezequiel Garay, Pepé and Fernando Gago also starting. The match ended
2-2 with the away side rallying twice to gain a precious point at the
historic stadium. Key players Maurice McDonald and Sergio Ramòs had
been injured during the last phases of the previous season and Ramòs
started in defence while McDonald sat on the bench, not a 100% fit. Red
Devils scored twice from the 3 chances they had throughout the game,
while the hosts had 11 in the game, 7 of them in the 2nd half after
Zinedine Zidane and Rory Ravenhill(penalty) saw RMC lead 2-1 at half
time. 7 chances in the second half: out of which none were converted!
Higuaín had 3 headers on goal out of which 2 were saved and one was
just wide. Tennant hit the left post and RMC payed the price of not
taking their chances when Red Devils equalised in the 75th minute! RMC
tried to win the match in the last 15 minutes, but luck was against
them and Sylvester Tennant skied a last minute free-kick...
Manager Sujith Krishnan was disappointed after the game, but was heartened by the return of key players in the squad-"Maurice and Sergio are back to full fitness, which is certainly good news, especially for the midfield. We've missed Maurice this season." Asked about the tactics he used in the game, he said- "Well, I thought this was a chance to experiment because I was sure of a win. But even after dominating the match in every aspect, we had to settle for a draw. 2nd Division is not a place to experiment, I found out today. And it will be a good lesson for the future."
Real Madrid-Champs are still 2nd in the table, but 2 points off the top which guarantees promotion to The Champs. They next face Leeds United in the Round of last 16 in the LXM Cup on the 17th...
