Real complete 'biggest signing ever'
Real Madrid-Champs completed
arguably the most high-profile signing in their history when Roman
Pavlyuchenko reached the Bernebeu today morning in a highly speculated
and controversial deal that saw Alfredo Di Stefano, youngster David
Beckham and hometown boy Fernando Hierro leave RMC in exchange! While
some analysts say that a decent enough striker mainstay defender and a
hot prospect midfielder is too much to give for a striker who is 26
years old, most are excited about the deal, calling it Real's "Biggest
Signing Ever" and are looking forward to the strike force of van
Nistelrooy, Raúl and Pavlyuchenko working together!
But LXM Daily's senior transfer market analyst Mark Halloway had the former opinion. He said to the league newspaper- "It would have been a fine deal if it only involved Beckham and Di Stefano, but the addition of Hierro to that deal was unnecessary! He's been one of the best defenders since the club was made! Horrendous decision by Krishnan and his management staff."
The departure of Hierro does leave RMC without the youngest player out of the initial Real Madrid-Champs season 1 squad. The only remaining members of the founding line-up are 34 year olds Mathew Brooker & Sylvester Tennant, and 30 year old Maurice McDonald. The negotiations took 3 days to conclude and inside sources revealed that Pavlyuchenko's ex-team Madrid FC wanted 20 year old Zinedine Zidane involved in some way in the exchange deal, but RMC wouldn't even consider letting their star midfielder go. The initial offer made to Madrid FC was reported to be Hierro, Tennant, Di Stefano and 1 million econ, but the RMC negotiators' counterparts were intent on one of Real's under-25 midfielders in place of Tennant and are reported to have, at one stage, even wanted 2 young midfielders in the deal!
The controversy surrounding the deal will circulate for long, but RMC's concern at the moment is just that Pavlyuchenko solves the strike problems that got the two-time champions relegated last campaign. It is always true that matters are a little easier in the lower division, but in THIS league, it's not much easier. With at least some of the teams like Viva Kerala, Legend Killers, Dunhill Players, The Achintyans, Dynamo Costco, Olivais e Moscavide, Manchester United FC, Grand Rapid Torpedos, Metro and The Reds to be in competition alongside RMC, the move comes as a necessary step.
Roman made his club debut in a friendly away from home against Dunhill Players and had a shot skim the crossbar, but apart from that, he was pretty much invisible in the 1-0 win. But the travel, and of course his hasty transfer was just over hours ago.
He is expected also to travel to face Just Extra-Ordinary in 3 days' time.
