Sparks blown out!
A 6th minute penalty, easily
dispatched by Rory Ravenhill proved enough to hand defending Champions
and league leaders Sparks United their first league defeat of the
season at the hands of Real Madrid-Champs!
The scoreline could have been more in favour of the home side, had the RMC strikers(and especially Raúl) taken 5 other chances to come their way. Sparks had 3 chances out of which 2 were wide of the target and their only shot on target easily saved by veteran goalkeeper Stanley Moore. Sparks' stars this season- teenage superstar Dean Locke and midfield maestro Glen Sanders were nowhere to be seen, as the RMC midfield and defence did a good job of restraining Sparks' key players.
RMC captain Maurice McDonald was slightly injured in the 79th minute but will return before the midweek Cup game, if at all his services are required. Manager Sujith Krishnan was very pleased with the result and had this to say after the match- "This is a very important result for us this season. It puts us just 3 points behind Sparks, who still lead the league by a point. It was their first league defeat of the season which is very important also, both for our morale and the fact that it comes as a disappointment to them, immediately after a 2-0 Cup defeat. We're right back in the title race, if you ask me! Our next league match against Bad Boys will also be as important and if we get 3 points in that game, it will put us in genuine contention for the title, which is always what we aim for at the start of every season. But immediate focus will be to progress in the Cup- the midweek match, because the away leg finished 0-0, a bit luckily for us, I daresay. So winning that match is top priority right now..."
The win also took RMC out of the relegation zone, 2 points ahead of Viva Kerala who lost 0-2 at their home to new boys Stallionz Fc!
