Zidane scores on debut!
Real
Madrid-Champs stepped onto the Säntiago Bernebéu pitch today at Bad
Boys, and were fielding a surprise and very late inclusion into the RMC
season- one which has not at all been fun and games.
Zinedine Zidane, 18, was playing his first match for the senior side, after staggering displays in the youth team. He is reputed to be quick, with a physical game.
The side had another rare name on the starting line-up, when fans' pre-match poll's indication that Sujith Krishnan would replace injured youngster Sergio Ramòsi with either Fabio Cannavaro or Roberto Carlos turned out to be way off, as in stepped 16 year old Képler Ferreira Pepé, who has had a very satisfying personal season.
The match saw both teams contest pretty evenly, as was expected, given RMC's advantage at home, and Bad Boy's advantage with a net 7.1 team strength compared to the home side's 6.1.
Real Madrid-Champs, who will be the defending champions for only 2 more weeks, and will end trophy-less for the first time in 3 seasons, stunned the recent Cup winners after an uneventful 1st half, in the 67th minute as Spence Coppell found a gap in the Bad Boys defence to send none other than the quick debutant Zidane clear, and the young man, who is destined for great things at the historic club, showed the experience of a 33 year old, and finished in style against keeper Clark Bonham!
The match looked to be ending with RMC winning it, but in the 89th minute, referee George Buske, reputed to be too hard for his good-for-nothing refereeing skill, gave Bad Boys a penalty, which Ross Acheson put into the back of the net.
It ended 1-1, but all the senior RMC players thumped Zidane on the back in appreciation of his goal as they walked off. It could be seen from the youngster's face, that he was on cloud number nine!
Krishnan gave a brief post-match interview and praised the Zidane for the debut goal-
"Not easy to forget about the pressure when you play your first game for the senior side, or any side, for that matter. He did great today. Some fans might think we will just show off the lad and get rid of him for a hefty price. But we have no intention of doing that. He is a RMC player, and will remain an RMC player for a long time to come..."
About the match, which has not helped in securing RMC top division status for next season, Krishnan said- "Well, about that. I know it will be disastrous if we get relegated, but as Deepak said a few minutes ago, it's not the end of the world! The team and I will try our best to stay up, with the next two matches away at decent sides in The Achintyans and Satanic Fc. For me, now, the most important aspect is, we should be a very good side for next season. In The Champs or the 2nd division, we will be the best! In fact, I would almost welcome 2nd Division next season, THAT gives us more time to build an even better side, and hit back with great momentum."
Next season will be very quiet regarding transfers at the club, according to many analysts. With a major transition spanning a good part of 2 seasons, there is no real need for filling positions. And lesser expense now, will provide greater funds for the future, and that will be needed, when we will have to replace to aging legs of Mathew Brooker, Sylvester Tennant and Stanley Moore...
